Thanks for this Gary. Sounds very interesting. As you pointed out, the event takes place at times of momentous change in the region, and since a large number of the participants will be from Morocco itself, it would be great if some of the papers would address issues like teacher agency, empowerment, praxis, action research, and bottom-up institutional initiatives for teacher development, as a way of creating close connections between teachers’ daily concerns and their classroom practice.

Thanks for the allegory, Julian. Despite the gloomy situation, I still believe that today is better than yesterday and that tomorrow will be better than today, especially if we perceive political change as a process and not just a product. Regardless of the outcome of their struggle, what these young hearts are going through are profound life experiences for a hopefully brighter future. Behind the scenes of unrest is an active process of sharing, debating, reflecting, and learning that is most evident in their online spaces. In this respect, I see glimpses of sunshine amidst all the tear gas.

Hi Mariam,

Thanks for yours. Yes, more of an interpretation than an analysis, I would say. Nothing wrong with interpretations, of course. My own would be that the text is an allegorical warning to young creatures emerging from dark places about what they might have found down there. It is hard to survive between the forces of entrenched secular power and the representatives of the supernatural. Those two may fall out now and then, but they are essentially on the same side, and it’s not yours. Keep away from royal banquets and goblin’s magic. Thaura hatta an-nasr. La lutte continue.
