This lecture sounds extremely interesting and I would love to attend it, but, unfortunately, I can’t, because I’m still in Doha, Qatar. I wonder if anyone is planning to go and/or if anyone knows one or all of the three collections of learners’ stories edited by Nunan and mentioned in the abstract.

Many thanks Magda for these Case Notes resulting from the Examination of your Proposal.

I think that accepting criticism – even when it is constructive – is soo hard when doctoral work is the focus because in it we invest so much of our personal-professional-and-researcher selves; it is our world that is under scrutiny, not some laboratory, and it takes time, and grace and the wisdom to take the ‘advice’ in a positive spirit so that the revised understandings of what the research will be like are genuinely ones we accept.

I can say all this safe in the knowledge that there was no Panel in my day and also rcognising that my own Supervisor said I was unteachable.
